When Mohinder first came to New Zealand from India in 1989, He never dreamed that he would be where he is today. For several years, he spent long hours working in orchards in the Bay of Plenty. In 1996, He opened a small café in Taranaki, serving meals to workers of the freezing works during day time and he was driving a taxi at night.

In December 1999, he planned to open his first Indian Takeaway in Wanganui after noticing a gap in the market for affordable quality Indian Food. Later on, he changed his plan to open a restaurant instead of takeaway; given the name, “Bollywood Stars Indian Tandoori Restaurant.”

In the early 2000’s, Moohinder and his wife came to visit Hastings, where he noticed the same lack of quality of Indian Food, so in 2002 he opened his second Bollywood Stars in Hastings, this was followed quickly by Bollywood Stars Gisborne in 2004.

To support the quality of the food that was associated with Bollywood Stars, in 2008, he started an import business to import traditional Indian Spices and other quality products especially premium quality Basmati Rice from India. Import Business now supplies quality products to restaurants throughout the North Island, including all Bollywood Stars Restaurants. In 2014 wholesale Business was awarded as “BEST ASIAN BUSINESS IN HAWKES BAY.”

Bollywood Star’s food is now recognized as being amongst the best in New Zealand, and has won a number of awards and much praise from customers- so when Mohinder had an opportunity to open Bollywood Star in Napier, he didn’t hesitate. “I couldn’t have done this without all my loyal customers, and I am ever grateful for the opportunities New Zealand has provided for me. Please enjoy the food!”

I’ve worked hard to make sure it’s authentic and it is at its highest quality!
